the specks in the background are dust. I was experimenting with a new glazing medium and hadn't figured out its nuances yet. The dust really distracts. If I still had the painting I could correct it in about 3 seconds (actually more like 3-6 hours. i was just talking in realist painter time which is a different temporal zone from the usual)
